The Misuse of Torture in Rendition Essays -- Film Analysis
What if someone you love just disappeared? The United States used this same idea to install a program known as the extraordinary rendition. It was put in place during the Clinton administration, but became publically recognized after 9/11. In the context of the movie, Rendition, rendition refers to the transfer of suspected terrorists outside of the United States to a foreign country, where harsh interrogation and torture takes place. Although Rendition was installed to protect the United States from terrorist attacks, the rendition of Anwar El- Ibrahimi represents the governmentââ¬â¢s misuse of the program. In the movie, Rendition, a terrorist bombing occurs in a foreign country and an American envoy is killed. An investigation is then dispatched, which leads to an Egyptian who has been living in the Unites States for many years and who is married to a United States citizen. This man, Anwar El- Ibrahimi, is then apprehended on his way home from a business meeting in Egypt. As Anwar El- Ibrahimi is now a terrorist suspect and is appeared to have gone missing on his flight back to the United States, his wife, Isabella El- Ibrahimi and a CIA analyst are trying to figure out where he is. The U.S government wants to find the mastermind who committed such terrorist attacks so they can prevent future attempts like these. In the movie, Alan Smith, CIA Analyst, confronts Corrine Williams, CIAââ¬â¢s Head of Operation Rendition, on human rights and she replies, ââ¬Å"Honey, this is nasty business. There are upwards of 7,000 people in central London alive tonight, because of information that we elicited just this way. So maybe you put your head on your pillow and feel proud for saving one man while 7,000 perish, but I got grandkids in Londo... ...of. The fact that Anwar El- Ibrahimi is abducted under reasons not justified by the cause is crossing the line. The movie Rendition exemplifies the misuse of torture as a way to show us the difference between what is right and what is wrong. Although someone seems like a terrorist, the U.S government cannot abduct such person solely on that assumption. One must look at the background and analyze their entire lives. Torture and rendition are a very sensitive and extremely controversial issue, but one must take a step back and realize what stops the government from torturing oneself. How Langston Hughes exemplifies the African American Essay
Abstract Prejudice is the key feature in the authors theme. He wants to tell away about how people singles out people based on these people appearances, racial background affiliations and social ranking. Harper Lee has done well to show how the stigmatized people are innocent and oblivious of the prejudices against them. It is common knowledge that itââ¬â¢s way off to kill a mocking bird. The mocking bird in Harpers story is Boo Radley. Boo has not indulged in any harmful activities nor hurt anyone across the social Diaspora. However, Boo is looked down upon due to his social rankings and looks. However, Harper is also determined to show that prejudice is not in any way such a big deal in a sidelined personââ¬â¢s life. He shows courage and human dignity. This is well understood from the actions and feelings of Boo Radley. Prejudice, the self and the Character of Boo To Kill a Mockingbird identifies Arthur Radley as a courageous person. He saw evil in people who committed evil; he sought after positive projections in the society and wished better life for everyone. He is a patriotic and wonderful person. We identify perception about him through the children, they though he was evil based on the rumor ââ¬Ëhe struck his parent with scissors and wiped the bloody scissors with his pants which means he attempted murdering them These rumors scare Jem and Scout and make them eye Boo suspiciously. He is a fearful figure but confident. His character shows self assuredness and focus. Boo is mockingbird, he knows it and is keen on projecting himself as a steadfast and good citizen though looked down as an outcast of Maycomb. Boo has courage and hope. He has been locked away in his house just like Tom who was accused of rape (Lee, 195). Similar prejudices befall Boo, he saves Atticus children and no one looks at if it as anything of importance. However Lee advices against this in pg 90 when he says ââ¬ËShoot all the blue jays you want, if u can hit ââ¬Ëem, but remember itââ¬â¢s a sin to kill a mockingbirdââ¬â¢ (Lee 90). à Killing a mocking bird is also seen when the sheriff is not honest about the death of Bob Ewell. Ewell was stabbed as Boo tried to save Atticus kids. Boo is not convicted for his good deed since the sheriff declares that Ewell fell on his knife and died. Boo indeed sacrificed himself for Jem and Scout. People in Maycomb make wild allegations about him just because he doest seem fit to be one of them. However, we see perseverance, a lot of tolerance and a focus to remain loyal and committed to do good things in Boo. In spite of this prejudice, he serves and helps people. He is kind and a role model. In the book Lee exemplifies these attributes through Boo wrapping a blanket on Scout (Lee p.46). à Boo is also charged with the rape of Mayella Ewell. This is an indication of prejudice, but he doesnââ¬â¢t seem to be in bad terms with his detractors. He is focused on being positive minded. The burning of Maudieââ¬â¢s house is another picturesque that projects the good side of Boo. Boo pities, feels and seeks after doing good rather than watch and laugh as people enjoy ruin Conclusion A mocking bird is more of a social asset rather than a mocking object. We should have a very positive attitude towards people, stop being racist and quit playing apartheid practices. Boo exemplifies exemplary behavior and showcases respect to elders and all other social members without prejudice. We should uphold and force it down to our children and emulate positive attitudes as exemplified by Boo Source Lee Harper (1930)To Kill a Mockingbird Ã

Analysis of Poetic Justice Essay Example For Students
Analysis of Poetic Justice Essay Jed Cunningham was a typical young man, whith a superior intellect in relasion to the avarage youth. Some of his teachers at school couldnt stand him because, as the narrator tells, he was also intellectually superior to them. But I think it the reason might be that he was a young man with his own ideas of the world around him, who didnt seem to accept the way he was suppose to think.à As i get it, he seems to ba a rebellion, whom could not stand to be like the average, he would not ever do anything expected of him or anything appropriate for a person with his intellect. Also he wouldnt follow the standarts of behavior, wich as a natural part of the society and environment that soronuds him, are a matter of course. The narrator explains him as a charming and independent young man, whom could get along with: The deeply wierd scientist nerd to the incredibly popular and handsome head boy. Popular at school, but to good and to adult-like to be defined by a crowd around him. He wanted to be a poet, to wonder about live, and to be somthing else than what people wanted him to be. Also he wanted to have no limits, nothing to commit him to a place, nothing to prevent him from traveling and doing exactly what he wants to do at the moment. And told are we that his mantra was live by the moment, seize the day. Though Jed Cunningham never wanted to look back and was, or wanted to be, independent and uncomitted, he anyway, several years after his graduation, joins the school reunion and in that way he does look back.à He might do it because his life didnt really turn out as he had hoped for in his rebellious youth. Now he is alone in a remote place on the coutry, because he as he admits has droven his wife to the point of insanity. Possible he also lives without friends, maybe he hasnt been able to stay in contact with anyone because of his ideas of life, and the wish of being independent. Perhaps, he now regrets that he trew all the happiness and security back in school away to live by his ideas. Now he sees, what he back then, trow away and somehow wants it back. No more he wants to be the suffering poet, he wants to be the average guy with a steady family and life. And in that way he admits that his way of life only was suppose to be one of the youth dreams and not a life in practice. Of course this is only a guess, in wich I have read between the lines, I cant in any way prove this in the text.à 2. The narrators image of herselfà She writes about herself as a bit of a disaster. Dont get me wrong, it is the picture you get from reading the tekt. She hates her life and the fact that she hadnt got the courrage to follow Jed into her dreams. That she hadnt the bravery to ruin all of the expectations of her and she is locked up in the everyday life. That she back in the youth needed the security of education and a normal way of living. Now she is tired of the repetition, for instance she writes about how she has to go and pick up her youngest daughter, how the daughter is dependent of her picking her up, like this: before she had to pick her youngest daughter up from school and say, How was your day? and hear Boring before listening to the same Harry Potter tape for the tenth time because all the other tapes were in the bedroom and they kept forgetting to bring a new one into the car, à The fact that she can actually tell what she is going to ask her daughter, and what the answer will be, indicates that she might have tryed this quite a coupple of times before.à When she writes that she had to pick her up, seems a bit negative to me. If she really enjoyed to go and pick her youngest daghter up from school she could for instance have written. Before she was going to pick up her youngest daughter from school, and definatly quit the part with the lines. .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .postImageUrl , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:hover , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:visited , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:active { border:0!important; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:active , .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20 .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ucd2d238a28c0b3e6547c1af3ea70dc20:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: An Analysis Of ' The Kite Runner ' EssayThe narrator tells us how she uses a lot of lotions to stop wrinkels, trying on her daughters close, and how she is working out like an insane, in a hopeless escape from the ageing process. It seems as all she really wants to, is to be back in school with all the dreams and expectations of life and being a poet. She appears as very unconfident personality, for whom life never really turned out as she had dreamed it to. Also it seems to me that it is like a burden to her that she never had the bravery to be what she wanted to be, instead of what her circle of acquaintances wanted her to. That might also be the reason why she was, and still is, so in love with Jed. He was the only one she could ever talk to about not following the expectations. For instance she tells about their secret dream, moving to Ireland and live by the day. As she writes about Jed. he was the first, ever, who met her interlectually He was the first person she had met, who she could share her inner thoughts and dreams with. The narrator always describes herself negatively, and, untill the very last part of the short story, her life seems to be a complete failure. But at last when she, in her mailing-conversation with Jed, realizes that his life actually was the complete failure. She discovers that her life might be much more important than she thinks. And she finds that what they had back in school was an utopian dream that could lead to no future. 3. The significance of their youthful relationshipà As I understand this short story, their relationship has been build on the fact that both of them had some thoughts about the society and world wich surounded them. I think they found a passion in each other because they could share these thoughts as well as challenge each other intellectually and in that way go to another level in the comprehension of this world. Their common dream about moving to Ireland and live as poets, only working to pay their rents, it too makes the special connection between them even stronger. It is somthing mutual to share, the only difference between them was their different view of this dream. The narrator knows that it is a dream that cant ever be true, of the poor reason that she cant breake her suroundings expectations to her future. Jed, on the other hand percieves this dream as a part of his riot against the society and the expectations. He truely believes that it will come true some day. It is a quite remarkeble dream, because it altrough the narrators life has kept her back. She couldnt move on and the only reason why is that she was, until the last piece of the short story, still living in the regret that she could not follow Jed and the dream.à At last when she knows about Jeds lonly life in the country, she realize that possibly she was not the one to make the wrong choice several years ago, perhaps Jed was. 4. Comments on the languae and the point of viewà The perspective is changing through the short story, but it is always narrative with a limited point of view. The narrators name is not revealed in the story. It only lets the reader into the main characters mind, and not Jeds, which means that we know what the narrator thinks about herself, her life and Jed. The language in the story is formal. The narrator uses examples when she implies something and there is not much use of slang, if any. She uses long sentences with imagery language. For example when the narrator writes about Jed and herself,à He wrote the most wonderful letters, unexpected, witty, dangerousà She uses a lot of adjectives that emphasizes even more visible when the story is suppose to be negative, idyllic and so on. The adjectives makes it more alive. .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .postImageUrl , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:hover , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:visited , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:active { border:0!important; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:active , .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub4b2b1153c1f9dbdac95e78ad99132bd:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Poetry ppt ms Essay5. The themeà I think the theme is about how the youth is to be enjoyed. Everybody in this story wants to go back to when life was ahead of them and it could turn out in every way they wished for. How the dreams of the future dominated the mind and they still had the chance to choose what to be and how to act. The story describes how the fear of acting in the wrong way, makes someone hold on to the secure choise and possibly it keeps them back. While on the other hand, the fear of being like everyone else, or not to follow ones dreams makes you throw every kind of security away, and rush into a life you might get lost in. 6. The titleà The narrator realizes at last that she was right in not going away and instead stay safe with her family, cause that was the right thing to do for her. She is not a poet .. and only a poet could be happy with a life of sin. She cant leave her children she wont, it would be a sin she could not live with. At last she figures out that she has to transfer her passion of the unknown to her children, now they are the youth with all life ahead of them. They are the ones to use it now. She cant live with the sin of a poet, but she wont either suppress it inside of her, that is why she passes it on to her children. And like that, she has been fair, and justifyed the poetic part she got inside.

Titanium Essay Research Paper The Reverend William free essay sample
Titanium Essay, Research Paper The Reverend William Gregor in 1791, who was interested in minerals, discovered Ti. He recognized the presence of a new component, now known as Ti, in menachanite, a mineral named after Menaccan in Cornwall ( England ) . Several old ages subsequently, the component was rediscovered in the ore rutile by a German chemist, Klaproth. The pure elemental metal was non made until 1910 by Matthew A. Hunter, who heated TiCl4 together with Na in a steel bomb at 700-800? C. Titanium is used for metals with aluminium, Mo, manganese, Fe, and other metals. These metals of Ti are used chiefly in the aerospace industry, for both airframes and engines, where lightweight strength and ability to defy extremes of temperature are of import. Titanium is every bit strong as steel, but much lighter. It is twice every bit strong as aluminium. It is about every bit immune to corrosion as Pt. Titanium is a constituent of joint replacing parts, including hip ball and sockets. A Ti anode coated with Pt provides cathodic protection from corrosion by salt H2O. Titanium pigment is an first-class reflector of infrared radiation, and is extensively used in solar observatories where heat causes hapless sing conditions. Pure Ti dioxide is comparatively clear and has an highly high index of refraction with an optical scattering higher than diamond. It is produced unnaturally for usage as a gemstone, but it is comparatively soft. Star sapphires and rubies exhibit their asterism as a consequence of the presence of TiO2. The dioxide is used extensively for pigment as it is lasting and has good covering power. Titanium oxide pigment histories for the largest usage of the component. Titanium, symbol Ti, silvery-white metallic component with an atomic figure of 22 and an atomic weight of 47.9. Titanium is one of the passage elements of the periodic tabular array. Pure Ti metal is highly brickle when cold but ductile and ductile at a low ruddy heat. Titanium is neer found in the pure province. Because of its strength and light weight, Ti is used in alloys and as a replacement for aluminium. Alloyed with aluminium and V, Ti is used in aircraft for fire walls, outer tegument, landing-gear constituents, hydraulic tube, and engine supports. Titanium is besides widely used in missiles and infinite capsules. The Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo capsules were mostly made of Ti. The chemical inertness of Ti makes it suited as a replacing for bone and gristle in surgery and as a pipe and armored combat vehicle liner in nutrient processing. It is used in desalination workss because of its ability to defy saltwater corrosion. Titanium dioxide, known as Ti white, is a superb white pigment used in pigments, lacquers, plastics, paper, fabrics, and gum elastic. Pure Ti is soluble in concentrated acids, such as sulphuric and hydrofluoric acids, and indissoluble in H2O. The metal is highly brickle when cold, but is readily ductile and ductile at a low ruddy heat. Titanium thaws at about 1660? C ( about 3020? F ) , boils at about 3287? C ( about 5949? F ) , and has a specific gravitation of 4.5. The atomic weight of Ti is 47.88.
